I used to understand myself to be a potter: a potter first, before and after everything else. Before the poet was the potter. Before the painter was the potter. Before the writer was the potter. Before the singer of songs, the dancer of ceremony, the planter of seeds, the maker of masks, the farmer and the goat girl… was the potter. But during these last 10 months, in my newest and most beautiful garden… my world, from the inside out, has been turned upside down. During these last 10 months I have had a growing epiphany: I am a farmer! It has percolated up, from the marrow of my bones: I am a farmer first, before and after everything else. I am a farmer!
